With the start of the school year and the beginning of our CCD catechesis classes for our young people, I wanted to give you another update on the changes that will happen with Wednesday Masses starting in September.
Because we don’t have a Catholic school that I can teach and be present at, I would like to have the opportunity to teach and pray with all of our CCD students. For this reason, I will be having at least one Wednesday evening Mass if not two to reach all of our CCD kids among the three parishes.
Starting in September, there will be a Wednesday 5:15pm Mass at Sacred Heart that I highly encourage students and their parents to attend if they are able. Dinner will follow as usual at about 5:45 or at the conclusion of Mass.
Approximately every other Wednesday, I will celebrate a 6:30pm Mass at St. James in place of the 8am Mass on those Wednesdays. 6:30 will be the new start time for CCD whether or not there is Mass to reduce confusion about the start time of CCD and to give us extra time to invest in our kids’ formation.
The every-other Wednesday schedule at St. James is confusing, and I apologize for that.
I appreciate the flexibility and patience of the Wednesday morning Mass-goers who are sacrificing their usual Mass time on those Wednesdays to accommodate our kids having the opportunity to go to Mass more frequently.
I very much look forward to having this extra time with our kids, and I am confident that this is going to be a very beautiful year of growth in the Lord for our students, parents, and communities at large.
Please pray for me and our catechists in a special way that we can embody in ourselves the transformation in Jesus’ love that He wants for our kids.
